Description: Music played an integral role in the life of Native Americans. Music was used for ceremonial purposes, recreation and healing. Perhaps no other group of people has quite the rich and storied culture as those of the Native Americans. They have a history rich in struggle, strife, and triumph. This educational music performance/demonstration assembly, along with follow up classroom activities, provides students and teachers an introduction to the history of the Native American Indian, their music, history and culture. Students learn the origins and history of the culture by tracing the beginning from Siberia to their crossing the Bering Strait into North America and the true story of what really happened to the great nations of the Native Americans. This exceptional music performance presents many Native American flutes and miscellaneous instruments, along with a dynamic video presentation, and an original music score that sets the stage for an enjoyable, entertaining educational experience. The presentation crosses the curriculum and includes student participation in music, song and dance. This presentation meets all CORE standards in music, visual art and history. The Presenter, Gary Stokes, served as a Ca. Certificated Teacher for 15 years. A professional jazz musician for many years, he now dedicates his efforts to developing his distinct sound on the Native American Flutes while sharing the magnificent story of the Native American Nations and his ancestry within the Klamath Native American Nation. Requirements: Large overhead projector screen, VGA overhead projector. It is very important that the VGA projector be in excellent working condition projecting a clear, crisp image on the overhead screen. Two tables 6 feet in length. Two electrical outlets close to the stage.
