California Ballet Company
Description

A Day in the Life of a Dancer is a behind the scenes look at the life of the professional dancers of the new California Ballet Company. Participants discover what is required to maintain a healthy and strong ballet physique by learning about the dancers daily training regimen. They will learn about the process of creating, learning, and perfecting a piece of choreography, and generate some original movement of their own. Finally, a question and answer session allows participants to join the discussion and get a first hand account of the career of a ballet dancer. During Ballet Insiders, participants explore the classic elements of storytelling through ballet as they take an in-depth look at a full length ballet. Audience participation allows students to be part of the story, using new skills in pantomime and stylized movement. In addition to learning the art of ballet pantomime, experience excerpts of the ballet performed by California Ballet Company artists. Choose between Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty all year, and The Nutcracker between Sept and December.

"I loved their presentation!! The kiddos really enjoyed it and I think they got a lot out of it!" - 1st grade teacher "Thank you, thank you! That was fabulous! Loved that the children got up on stage." - 1st grade teacher "That's so cool boys can be ballet dancers too." - 1st grade boy "I want to dance on stage again! The dancers look like they are floating." - 1st grader "I want to dance for my job too! Best job ever!" - 1st grader South Oceanside Elementary, December 2018

"Another presentation I enjoyed was Ms. Amanda Dalys discussion of human movement and how some movements have very universally accepted implications, dancing is just taking these movements and adding your own flair to tell a story by evoking certain emotions." "During her presentation, she explained that there are body movements, gestures, and positions that have universal meanings across peoples and cultures. This, I believe, touched on the interdisciplinary nature of learning more than any other presentation I attended during the course." UCSD Students of Revelle College, November 2018
